Our ministry efforts at Roscoes's Chili Challenge in Lakeland, FL, were well rewarded. Numerous times throughout the event the promoters thanked us for our presence and said we were a great addition to the event.
Our ministry efforts at Roscoes's Chili Challenge in Lakeland, FL, were well rewarded. Numerous times throughout the event the promoters thanked us for our presence and said we were a great addition to the event. Our tent was used for the judging of the chili cook-off and we had a steady stream of visitors all day and late into the evening. One of the lead staff members of this event said he believed we were being real Christians by reaching out to those that many in the church pay no attention to. I was very thankful as the promoter allowed us to conduct a memorial service from the main stage and even arranged for sound equipment. There were 34 names submitted for recognition and I was able to preach a brief gospel message to the small crowd that attended our service. Some notable people in the audience were Roscoe and a neighbor he had invited. He introduced me to the neighbor that he said was like a brother to him. What made the event even more meaningful is that the neighbor was dying of cancer and would probably not be at another Chili Challenge. My prayer is that the gopel message preached will bring about comfort and help those who heard to find peace with God. I believe we are just getting started on this event and will continue to be amazed as God opens doors for ministry. One of our regular workers made the comment, "I finally get it." He was referring to the revelation that God showed him why we spend a weekend working hard with little sleep to give away coffee, donuts, and ourselves. He was ringing a bell as each name was read at the memorial service and he looked out and saw people willing to hear the gospel in this setting who really are not willing to set foot in a church. Thank you for your prayers and support. If you would like to get more involved with us at events like Roscoe's please get in touch with me.
