Daytona Bike Week '08

Daytona is going on but on a little smaller scale than anticipated.  We will be in a church parking lot right in Deland, 20 miles west of Daytona on a main road called International Speedway. Next year we are scheduled to have a larger property more out of town.

It is pretty exciting the way some things have developed.  We will be barbecuing 3-8 hogs and should have bands bike wash etc.  I was trying to get vendors, but that hasn't gone very well.  I set the standard pretty high for who I wanted.  Vendors have to apply and provide references for their Christian character.  Not surprisingly, christian vendors are hard to find.  What's even harder to find is Christian vendors who don't care that much about making money:-)  Eventually I will end up trying to partner with some vendors and just have booths at our location and get volunteers to run them.  It should be a good start this year.

The semi truck and trailer are coming along very slowly.  This winter has been very difficult for me to get out there and make progress.  There is some talk of getting some MAPS workers involved with the project.  That may be the ticket.  I figured out all the legal stuff and will not need a CDL to operate the thing.  The trailer will be titled as a trailer-coach rather than a commercial trailer and the truck will be titled and licensed as a recreational vehicle, which means I have to sign papers verifying it's use for recrational purposes and not commercial use.  I am sure there will be a lot more red tape before we are actually in the rig, but it was nice to get a few straight answers.

I will be going to Daytona in a 1989 Ford F350.  The intent was to use a pick-up bed camper, but that idea went south.  I was going to have to increase the length of the trailer tongue by 40 inches.  The trailer builder I had doing the work decided not to.  I assume it was for liability and structural concerns.  All of that leads us to the exciting prospect of camping in a tent for Bike Week.  Definitely not the first time, but I am not really looking forward to it.

Please pray for us as we get ready to hit the road.  We have one event left in Colorado that usually is very successful for us.

Re: Daytona Bike Week '08

A very dear friend of the ministry has rented us a Motorhome to stay in for Bike Week.  It was delivered to the church yesterday an is waiting for us.  This is a real answer to prayer and will be very beneficial to the ministry.
